This Creepy Thriller
Derrickson's contained scarefest stands strong despite the lack of a sequel. Taking place in 1978 Denver, a series of disappearances has made the local kids on edge. When Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and imprisoned in a basement, he anticipates a fatal end. Yet the old telephone mounted nearby repeatedly calls, with spooky callers offering help, and the prescient dreams of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel
This Dramatic Portrait
In the conflict between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for greed in Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic of the disgraced TV preacher and her criminal husband. The actor acts as the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple commence monetising the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, however Chastain manages to show the real-life figure with compassion. Next Tuesday, late night, Film4
This Espionage Thriller
This week's another release from Steven Soderbergh delivers a espionage tale as sharp like the turtlenecks used by the actor's intelligence officer. The two stars are experts of calm composure, so a delicious psychological game of truth or lie develops. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela join in the clever spy entertainment. Friday 17 October, multiple time slots, the Sky channel
